Keynote Speakers

We are pleased to advise that a distinguished list of speakers from academe and industry will be at the conference.

They include from academe:

Professor Philip Pearce, Foundation Professor of Tourism at James Cook University (and Australia's first Professor of Tourism) will be reflecting on twenty five years of tourism research and education in Australia;

Dr Tom Baum, Professor of International Tourism and Hospitality Management at Strathclyde University in Glasgow, will be examining the past achievements and future challenges facing human resource management in the tourism and hospitality sector.

Prof. John Tribe, Professor of Tourism at Surrey University, will discuss Tourism Knowledge: Past Achievements, Future Challenges.

Professor Brian Wheeller of Breda University will delight us with another of his inimitable presentations, this time on the history of the English saucy seaside postcard, and its relevance to today's academic study of tourism.

Professor Richard Butler in probably his last appearance at a CAUTHE conference will reflect on the tourism resort life cycle, and its updating by the use of force field analysis.

From the tourism industry and NGos we are fortunate to be addressed by:

Dr Lynda Kelly of the Australian Museum will be discussing the challenges facing museums in attracting visitors;

Mr David May, General Manager of Marketing and Public Relations of Jetstar - Australia's leading value based carrier, will speak on the challenges facing the airline industry and particularly the value based and low cost sector, with reference to its achievements.

Ms Penelope Figgis, Vice Chair for Australia and New Zealand, World Commission on Protected Areas, will discuss future challenges facing the tourism industry in protected areas
